Hurghada International Airport is situated 5 km southwest of downtown Hurghada, a coastal resort on the Red Sea. The airport has expanded in recent years, adding an international section and a terminal for domestic flights. Travelers can easily reach downtown Hurghada from the airport through various means, including pre-booking an airport transfer. The area surrounding the airport boasts stunning views of desert mountains and sandy beaches, making it a popular destination for aquatic sports enthusiasts and beach lovers.
A decent airport, it can seem overly strict as you are searched and have your package checked multiple times. However, this is down for our safety, so it is not a nuisance. The staff are friendly when they are not overly busy and will assist you with enquiries. Everyone I interacted with were great when you were nice to them, but they can be snappy at times with rude or impatient people. The prices for food and drinks are expensive but this is an airport so this should be expected .

I would expect much more from such a big international airport.Food facilities below average.Despite 5 points of control and security when entering, while you are in main hall unfortunately no one to help.I have witnessed man falling down and having epilepsy attack. Four of us we’re trying to help him while there was no doctor or paramedics for more than 10 minutes That’s ridiculous Luckily attack has stopped. How bad is that???One of few positives it the beautiful views from main hall but that’s it.

Our experience at Hurghada Airport on 8 March left us feeling thoroughly disappointed. From the moment we arrived, it seemed evident that profit was prioritized over tourist service and transparency.Upon arrival, we were immediately accosted by people attempting to sell visas at bigger price. Despite the official visa cost $25, these individuals insisted on charging $30 or £/€25.Moving through the airport, our disappointment continued at the duty-free shops. The absence of displayed prices for products was became apparent that prices were arbitrarily set based on origin of flights. This was exemplified when I attempted to purchase cigarettes, only to be quoted a price that was double what I would pay outside the airport. It felt like a deliberate attempt to take advantage of travelers' lack of options and information. It's disheartening to see such disregard for transparency and fair pricing, in an environment where travelers should feel welcomed and supported, it's disappointing to instead feel like potential targets for exploitation.Don’t forget to bring a pen, you will need it to fill the tourist form.

Not big airport, easy access to the locationsHaving few terminalsIf you have pick up most probably the driver will wait you outside behind the taxis, near the road so you need to go out of the terminalWe were traveling with hand luggage only, so can’t comment regarding the waiting time for baggage….On the departure from Hurghada, it was big ques and staff is working so long. What I didn’t like is that they are checking your tickets at the door into the airport (terminal unreal) and than inside the check in desk, and than before security control and than before going to the bus. All these procedures are ridiculous. Since we traveled with hand luggage only, while passing security check they removed my manicure scissors from the luggage. However before that it was allowed to pass three airports before (including upon airrival to aiport). But security said, well that is different and here is different. Very nice funny and reasonable explanation….

We have only arrived at this airport so far, today we depart and I will update my review after. Arriving was pretty chaotic, there were huge disorganised queues for immigration, a small form needs to be filled in but this isn't clear and it is unclear where to get the forms from. Bring your own pen.The queues are long and slow moving.Once through immigration there are cash points and finally places to buy an Egyptian SIM - about 6 euros for standard one. My SIM - Etisalat didn't activate for a couple of hours. If you leave the airport, you can't re enter. Taxis are priced high and barter well. Look up the price on the careem app whilst you still have internet and haggle well 🙄Well we were overcharged by the taxi on the way back in, Careem adds a charge of 35 egp, our driver then added an extra 170 egp 😲. Airport is pretty good, lots of shops, lots of smoking rooms, water fountains - otherwise small bottles of water are 25 egp. A very friendly feel to this airport.

The Hurghada airport experience was far from pleasant. While the airport itself is relatively small, the process to get through is extremely tedious and uncomfortable. Upon arrival, you must show your passport before heading to the first security checkpoint, where you’ll wait in line for about 30 minutes. Some staff offer an option to skip the line for €20 per person, which feels more like an unnecessary upsell than a genuine service. Before placing your items on the conveyor belt, you are asked for your passport again, and if you don't immediately have proof of your flight, you’re sent to the side to find it, holding up the line and causing further delays. This step feels redundant since the check-in process happens after the first security check. The whole process is disorganized, and the waiting time is extended due to the lack of plastic trays, meaning each person stands for 3-4 minutes just waiting for trays to put their items in.Hygiene is a serious concern at this airport. You're required to remove your shoes, but the floors are dirty, which makes this uncomfortable. The condition of the airport is poor, and it’s clear that cleanliness is not a priority. The toilets are filthy, with no soap, towels, or basic hygiene supplies available. To make matters worse, it smells awful, and the floors are sticky and unclean. There are multiple unnecessary passport checks, with at least 3 different ones after the initial security check, and a final security check where you must again remove your shoes despite the worsening condition of the floors. After all these hurdles, you’ll enter the gate area, only to find a noisy, dirty construction site. Dust and debris are everywhere, and the smell from construction work is unbearable. The toilets near the gates are in even worse condition, with broken tiles, grime everywhere, and no apparent effort to maintain them.Despite the lack of service, the staff frequently expect tips, which adds to the frustration. Overall, the disorganization, excessive passport checks, lack of cleanliness, and unfriendly staff make for a highly stressful and unpleasant experience. I would not recommend traveling through Hurghada airport if you can avoid it.

Stand small airport.Be ready:-Upon entry full security check is completed (scanners for luggage and personal check) and after passport control process is repeated.-We did not have problems to bring water with us so it is worth the shot.-AC in the airport is on 18 degrees so ensure to have warm clothes with you.-Shops are having fixed prices and they were less expensive than city shops (we do not know how to haggle well so overpaid for items).-upon arrival to Egypt and departure you will need to fill simple form which is handed to boarder police.- there are two security checkes for bags. They make you take your shoes off for one of them. On both of them we were selected for extra security check - they did not do anything but make us fill in our flight info again. A waste of everyone's time.If this review helped you ( you can bring water) please like it and follow us.

However, I recommend avoiding buying food after customs, as the prices are excessively high (240 EGP, or 7 euros!!!). Furthermore, when we open the sandwich, we see that half of the cheese and salad are missing, which is scandalous!

New levels of inefficiency, disrespect and rudeness have been reached thanks to this airport (I’ll skip the arrival part which was just chaotic):1) No information about which terminal your flight is assigned to, which is actually needed when arriving by taxi.2) Online check-in works but you will be refused when arriving at the border control because they trust only airport printed tickets.3) never ending waiting time at the check-in desk although you have no luggage to check in and ticket is already issued. Business class is just accepting everyone and is therefore not business class. Once the clerk finished chatting with colleagues and text his friends, the ticket is printed and you re-do the border line.4) border control refuse you again, because you need to fulfil a migration document by hand.5) you fulfilled the card and re-do the border control line to finally arrive in a never ending line to screen you and your bags a third time. The guards yell at you and treat you like you are less than garbage.Overall, passport is checked 6-7 times. Every staff layer seems to have their superiority complex. And of course wifi didn’t work :)I could continue… for a country whose 25% GDP depend on tourism, this is unbelievable and I hope I will never be back to Hurghada.

the staff is pleasant, kind and helpful, but checking your passport 5 times is stupid. They have artificially created jobs. The prices are classic as in any other international airport

What a utter shambles. I have travelled to many countries but this airport was the worst experience I’ve had. We got out of a taxi and a man took our suitcases without us saying OK and put them on a trolley, he then wheeled them 30m and asked us for money. This was the first and only time we experienced this in Egypt. The security is insane at the airport, every time you move your passports are checked - even before you enter the airport itself. There is then a bag scanner, then the passport is checked again and we were stopped for our carry ons to be drug swiped. Then you get to check in, passports checked again where you also have to fill in a Visa card - though then don’t tell you that they just put it in your passport so be sure to fill it in before customs. Then at customs men and women are split into different queues where everyone is patted down including over your genitals. Stopped again for bags to be drug swiped. Then boarding passes checked to go through to duty free area. Once in this area there are little places to eat or drink, a Burger King and cafe, but most annoyingly there weee numerous indoor smoking areas that although were behind a glass door made the whole seating area smell of smoke. This was very unpleasant. Passports then checked again to go to gate, then when boarding then when stepping on to the plane. All very tiresome by this point.

Hurghada airport, it's a bit of a farce to actually get into departures, full security check BEFORE you even check in bags all bags though scanners, then everyone has to check in via a check-in desk (like old days) so even if you have a pre printed ticket and no bags to drop you HAVE to go to check in and check in ... Huge queues as they are so slow .. then into security more queues to check passports... Don't forget departure cards to be completed ... Then though to security for more scans and a actual physical search ... Including baby's children women every one ... Which means huge queues .... Then final passport check .... Then into departures. Once in there it's a nice airport.. now arrivals don't get me started .... Visa $25 dollars each person if you don't have dollars it's £25 each .. then fill in a arrival card .. then though security / passport control then wait for ages (over a hour) for bags to arrive .. then queue as all bags are scanned leaving the airport for your holiday ... Don't forget Egypt is a 3rd world country .... That has had its best days 6000 years ago ..

Patience is needed for the numerous security checks to get to departures. Luggage and people scanned at least three times and everything in-between. Poor communication throughout the whole process. No one even looked at the visa they said you had to pay $25 to get and landing cards still had to be completed both ends. Frustrating!

I have to be honest, unlike most of the negatives of Egypt, I was not actually stressed in this airport, and I think as long as you arrive early so there is no concern of missing your flight, you will probably find yourself laughing to yourself at just how absolutely cartoonishly ludicrous this airport is. It's a real case of truth being stranger than fiction, and in this case it was some South Park level of ridiculous, trust me.To understand it, you need to understand what a boondoggle is. A boondoggle is a superfluous job created by the government to reduce unemployment.Hurghada Airport is big on boondoggles. There is a guy at the door who checks your tickets and passport. Then you go in and there is a security check before the checkin desk. Before the security check another guy checks the same documents... about 20 meters after the first dude. Then theres the security check number 1, where you have to take everything off including belt and shoes, and everyone is frisked. Then a guy searches your bag, in what I note was a rather superficial manner, I could have hidden something illegal in there easily. And after seeing that guy, you have to write name, number, nationality and passport number on a lil piece of paper. Then the checkin desk, where you HAVE to go because electronic boarding passes are not allowed. Then passport control as usual. Then another security check after passport control, same thing again, another dude does a secondary body scan on you, get you to stand in front of something that looks like a blackboard, hold your arms in the air and turn 360 degrees. I didn't have the presence of mind at the time to check if its fake but I think it probably was not a real machine. Then again you have yo write your details on a piece of paper. Then walk ten paces over to the guy who wants to stamp your boarding pass and search your bag... again. And once more, name, passport number, nationality on a piece of paper. Then finally you can go to the gate, but not without dodging random people who ask you for tips in the toilets despite not having any cleaning equipment to speak of.And even the gates are cordoned off into separate sections, with a gatekeeper to once again check your tickets. They try to scam you at the shops by saying the water is 45 EGP but its actually 150.Then you scan your ticket at the gate to board the plane and then, to top it all off, as you walk down the tube to the aircraft, theres another dude in there who just wants to check your tickets one final time. The view from Hurghada Airport is absolutely gorgeous. But if you want to leave Egypt with nothing but irrepressible contempt for the country and its people, Hurghada Airport is the way to go.An absolute disgrace.

Очень разочарована. Никакого уважения к гостям города. Какие глупые правила в этом отсталом аэропорту. Грубые, некомпетентные сотрудники. Относились к нам как к преступникам.What a stupid rules at this airport, rude staff,Firstly By the entrances kept us outside and demands a passport and ticket, what is outrageous! The check in of Pegasus airlines Abdul is so incompetent, was asking to carry one hand bagage and to take off a back bag what was on it, to make my life easier I needed to keep it that way, however when I checked in with arrival flight from Turkish airlines, check in agent didn't ask me to carry a back bag on the back. then he started to ask what is my pregnancy period, - go to Dr, he must check you, if you are allowed to fly, I said I can, I'm 27th week, can travel till 33 weeks, and my daughter was sleeping in the pram, so once that impudent Abdul took off a baggage tag from the pram, so after long arguing with 2 incompetent men, third man came and said that I don't need to c a Dr., with my date of pregnancy. After this nonsenseWe were told to pass a body control by scan, without shoes throu a dirty red carpet, I was told to lift up my sleeping baby, and to hold my hands on the side, I said. How ?After my body was touched and checked everywhere, the officer took the hand scanner checked again, the said put your leg on the stool, only then they let us go. I felt so humiliated. After scanner one man staring to open our bags and to check them, taking out our things, what a nonsense it just was checked my computer scanner! Then we were told to put down passport flight details on the book. After by passport control an officer checked my daughter's Russian passport asked is your daughter Egyptian ? I said now, look passport is Russian lol.It is written in noble Quran do not complicate things, but make them easy, however those people were doing visa versa.I was First and last time in backward airport like Hurghada. We were humiliated. Disgusting people and place.

I wish I could give zero stars… As soon as we walked to the doors of the airport, we were asked to show our passport and we had to enter through different doors. There were 3 security checks, and you even had to take off your shoes for all of them, even flip flops. Whilst checking in our suitcase, the guy at the counter was checking our passports for quite some time and taking photos of them… there was zero communication but I gathered it was my passport photo which when we went to passport control it was the same issue, two men laughing, which I’ve never had an issue before? They treat women especially so different. The toilets were absolutely vile, and there was a woman asking for tips… first of all my door didn’t even have a lock and secondly, there was no toilet roll. The sinks were disgusting too, and there was no soap in the dispenser. They watch you and give you roll to dry your hands and expect money. I don’t think so! The staff at this airport are shockingly rude and disrespectful and I definitely won’t be returning. They treat you like an animal.

Worst experience ever. They treated us like dogs. The staff are not polite and continue to talk and laugh with colleagues even if we were waiting during 10 min in front of the desk. They didn’t respect us because we have dark skin. Because of that we had to go through a lot more check up than others, and during this process they were treating us like we were animals. No respect. Then we bought a SIM card at Orange for 20GB but when we arrived outside and checked the amount of data it was only 14GB. So stay at the airport and check it before leaving the airport because you can’t go back. They betray people.Avoid this country.

What a contrast. The arrivals side was quite an experience with long queues at a very slow immigration process and bags being scanned leaving the airport, which is new to me!Departures was much more pleasant and positive. There are two security checks, both were fast and efficient even with a large number of bag searches. Check in was all human and no problems. Departures was cool and classy except for the fast food outlet which was overcrowded , very expensive, with added FX fees for card transactions and the burgers were a poor quality. Superior coffee outlets were found further down the hall. Duty Free doesn't display any prices, which seems to be the custom in Egypt, but what I bought was cheap enough. I would probably have bought more if I knew how much things were! Overall better than I expected. But don't expect paper in the toilets.

A relatively small airport, with interesting architecture. Food outlets few and far far between but obviously you can purchase last minute tat and trinketry. Several smoking rooms are available free of charge. Like most Egyptian airports however the security, scanning of luggage and general scrutiny is excessive. My most recent visit saw me have my main luggage scanned twice before the airline check in, my hand luggage was scanned 4 times before boarding the plane. I was "frisked" twice. My boarding card was checked 5 times and stamped, and my passport checked 3 times. Also as a British passport holder we seem to get additional checks and are always sent to the furthest departure gate, where if you're really lucky you can have your hand luggage opened and checked once last time, just for luck. I know flight safety is very important in these times but Hurghada always seems excessive.
