I just finished playing The Brotherhood's indie horror adventure point and click game Stasis: Bone Totem and I have to recommend it! This game oozes atmosphere perfect for any fan of the Cthulu mythos, The Thing, Alien, and other sci-fi horror. The genre is not one I would normally play, but after seeing some gameplay and reviews by players I purchased it and it was worth it.

The gameplay is a mix of isometric walking with point and click mechanics. The studio, Brotherhood games, is an independent studio that has developed and published other games in the Stasis anthology series available only on Steam. Bone Totem is the only game they have made available on S|X and PS5 as well.

This 12 hour horror adventure romp is simply fucking awesome. The gameplay is what you expect from the genre (based on what I have seen), and has three interchangeable players and an easily shared inventory system, but the story and atmosphere is what really kept me glued. It is has weird cyberpunk, futuristic setting. It blends in themes of AI, religion and capitalism, corporatocracy, and transhumanism.

I liked Mandalore's video on it. Got too many other games on my plate, but it and the first game are on the list.

Is it better than the first game?

I really wished I hadn't watched Mandalore's video on it. I don't like point and click games so when he said he would be going into spoilers I thought "yeah I don't give a shit." I really wished I hadn't gotten it spoiled and could've played it through, because holy shit does it seem right up my alley.

I haven't played them. But from looking at Steam reviews, the answer seems to be yes. Seems like they refined many of their systems.

Not my preferred genre to play, but i watched a play through and its really good. Very solid cast, good script, some great interactions. Its up there with Soma.

Mandalore did a good job of highlighting it, but he held back on spoiling some of the best bits. Actually i think he avoided playing a single line of one of the best characters.

The graphics and voice acting are a huge step up from the first.
I need to get back into this, I was stumped on one of the puzzles and fell off

Yeah I forgot to mention how good the script and VA is. I was shocked honestly.

I'm an idiot with puzzles like this, but the dev posted an official guide on Steam that I used maybe 3-4 times when I got stumped.

I have bought it some time ago but haven't played it yet. I am a bit scared tbh lol, I got a bad thalassophobia. But I really want to and it looks awesome, plus I love adventure games.

Does it have jump scares?

There are no jump scares at all. The horror is all thematic and atmosphere

Nope, it's an anthology series. All the in-world lore is explained contextually and in dialogue.

Hmmm I don't know if I'm feeling the characters and voice acting thus far. Moses is kinda hokey to me and the other two feel like tropes and not real people. I'm still early in though, just entered chapter 2. They might grow on me. Beyond that, as I'm playing on Deck, some of the controls feel a bit clumsy. I imagine it plays better point and click but it's cool that controller controls works as well as it does.

I'm sounding pretty negative but the core gameplay is enjoyable so far.

Ah didn't know they'd put out a sequel. I thought the first was cool but significantly flawed in ways, so good to know they improved on the sophomore outing. Will pick this up eventually.

I'm a few hours further into this and my thoughts really haven't changed much. The puzzles have been mostly fine - not that difficult beyond a single thing I was misunderstanding. I'm into Chapter 3 and the whole framing and storytelling, with the characters and voice acting kinda pull me out of the whole thing. Mac and Charlie don't feel like genuine characters. I'd almost prefer if the game didn't have voice acting at all. And Moses really isn't working at all for me. I'm really in it to see where this is going.
