What are perks in rs3? ›

Perks are effects added to weapons, armour, or tools with Invention. They are created by combining materials inside a gizmo shell. The resulting gizmo is attached to an item that has been augmented with an augmentor. Perks are created within three types of gizmo shells (weapon, armour and tool).

Good ranged weapons to augment are black salamanders, hand cannons and the Royal crossbow. For mages, popular weapons to augment and disassemble include the Abyssal wand and abyssal orb, Crystal staff, Sunspear (magic) and staff of light.

The equipment separator is a device available at level 115 Invention. It can be used on augmented items of equipment level 15 and above to remove the gizmos from the item, without destroying either the gizmos or items. The item will remain augmented, retaining the item level and experience present on it.

As an off-hand slot item, the Augmented enhanced Excalibur can hold 1 gizmo, allowing up to 2 perks. Using this weapon in combat can gain experience to increase its level. Levelling the weapon will have no effect on its ability in combat, but it will improve the experience and materials gained for disassembling it.
